Kuala Lumpur, 26, November 2024 – CyberSecurity Malaysia, the national cybersecurity specialist and technical agency under the Ministry of Digital, has partnered with
SecurityGen, a global award-winning telecom cybersecurity firm, to enhance the security of Malaysia’s expanding private 5G networks. As cyber threats targeting 5G networks become increasingly complex, this collaboration will leverage advanced cybersecurity strategies and comprehensive training solutions to safeguard private networks.
Malaysia's 5G rollout has exceeded 80% coverage, serving over 13 million subscribers, with plans to showcase at least 40 private 5G use cases by 2025. This rapid expansion highlights the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures. However, it has also revealed a critical shortage of skilled professionals, with reports indicating a potential requirement for up to 30,000 telecom and cybersecurity experts in the coming years. This underscores the necessity for targeted training and development initiatives.
In line with Malaysia's rapid growth and its vision to become the ASEAN Digital Hub, the partnership with SecurityGen is designed to harness advanced threat intelligence strategies. This collaboration will focus proactively on identifying and mitigating emerging 5G threats, while also addressing the pressing need for skill-building initiatives in the telecom, cybersecurity sector.
YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Bin Abdul Wahab, Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia stated, “National security and public safety are of paramount importance to our daily operations, especially as cyber threats continue to rise. To protect organizations and individuals from these threats, it is essential to possess the right skill sets, knowledge, and equipment. The objective of this collaboration is to establish a strategic partnership grounded in the technological capabilities, strengths, and capacities that CyberSecurity Malaysia must adopt to achieve our cybersecurity vision. I am confident that our collaboration with SecurityGen, a committed and experienced partner, will significantly strengthen Malaysia's cybersecurity posture. Together, we aim to enhance Malaysia's defenses against emerging 5G threats, ensuring a secure digital environment that supports the nation’s security and growth objectives.”
SecurityGen will provide a threat-intelligence-driven assessment platform that continuously validates the security posture of private 5G networks. This platform automates vulnerability detection by simulating advanced attack scenarios, enabling enterprises on 5G private networks to enhance their security strategies. Continuous security testing ensures that 5G networks remain resilient against evolving threats, ensuring the integrity of core network services.
Additionally, SecurityGen’s 5G Cyber-security Lab offers a live environment for hands-on training and simulations of security challenges specific to 5G Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) networks. This enables telecom security professionals to better prepare for secure private 5G rollouts by identifying vulnerabilities and developing long-term security strategies. Combined with SecurityGen’s comprehensive training modules, these solutions offer crucial guidelines for ensuring the reliability and resilience of 5G networks and services, including advanced network APIs and NEF functionality.
“We are pleased to partner with CyberSecurity Malaysia in their mission to strengthen the nation’s cyber resilience and address digital vulnerabilities,” said Amit Nath, co-founder and CEO of SecurityGen. “By leveraging our threat-intelligence platforms and the 5G Cyber-security Lab, we aim to secure Malaysia's 5G private networks while supporting local capacity-building programs.”
“As technology advances, securing network APIs and NEF functionality is crucial. This collaboration aligns with CAMARA/Open Gateway initiatives to proactively tackle cybersecurity risks from increased network exposure, ensuring secure APIs in a private 5G environment—key to Malaysia’s digital future.”
Aligned with CyberSecurity Malaysia’s vision, SecurityGen is committed to equipping individuals and organizations with the skills and tools needed to effectively address emerging 5G cyber threats.
